WALTON COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS WARNS OF POTENTIALLY MISLEADING COMMUNICATIONS
The Walton County Supervisor of Elections Office is warning citizens of Walton County about potentially misleading communications they may be receiving from organizations not associated with the Walton County Supervisor of Elections or the Florida Division of Elections.
These communications may include pre-filled information and may be addressed to misspelled or informal names, children under voting age, or individuals no longer residing at a location. Communications might also include information to register to vote, request a vote-by-mail ballot, or other services, but may not always lead to our official website at VoteWalton.gov, or direct you to our office. In some cases, these communications direct the voter to make an update to their record that has already been done. Most recently, we have become aware of mailings that appear to be handwritten on postcards and indicate support for a particular candidate or political party. Often, these mailings may appear to come from other states as well. See example below.
These mailings may originate from third-party, non-government organizations, such as the Voter Participation Center (VPC), the Center for Voter Information (CVI), and Postcards to Voters. Often times, the origin is hard to trace. Although these organizations do usually identify themselves, they may appear to look official and use our office name, address, phone number, or email address.
Addresses, emails, phone numbers, and other voter information used by these organizations may be outdated or incorrect, which can lead to confusion regarding eligibility for voting, especially among voters who are already registered or have already requested vote-by-mail ballots.
Walton County residents are urged to confirm or update their voter record by using the official Supervisor of Elections website at VoteWalton.gov; and to not rely on the information in these third-party communications.
